Mechanical Technicians Diageo - Kingston - Jamaica


Red Stripe Jamaica is a GBP54m NSV business manufacturing & selling beer, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. Distribution is run by a Joint Venture, 50% owned by Red Stripe & 50% by Pepsi. The Jamaican drinks market is highly competitive – Red Stripe currently has about 19% share.

Employee will be competent to interact with suppliers of components, Original Equipment Manufacturers, warehouse and engineering stores with respect to receiving empties, spares and supply of full good.

Purpose of Role:
  • To be a key support to the Packaging Shift Manager in delivering Manufacturing Excellence targets on line efficiency on production lines. Responsible for the proper maintenance of company Asset that he/she operates as well as waste generated by it. These tasks directly affect the company’s bottom line.
  • Ensure adherence to Red Stripes standards for health, safety, quality, environment and hygiene in the packaging area.
  • Utilise safe systems of working and risk assessment tools for plant and processes. Seek and implement opportunities to improve work areas.
  • Ensure efficient operation of a complex machine, able to accurately and precisely record data, troubleshoot, perform problem solving and execute solution
  • Ensure that appropriate maintenance is carried out on equipment to desired level, to guarantee its availability during operation
  • Perform sanitation and housekeeping duties as well as basic QC checks

Key Outputs:
  • To ensure that all equipment are being operated to the desired performance levels while controlling the processes to ensure that all outputs are within specification.
  • To carry out all preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on all equipment to achieve optimal effectiveness
  • Complete condition monitoring tasks, and Line Studies.
  • Proactively detect and record faults/potential faults during Line.
  • Able to operate the machines that they maintain.
  • Able to correctly identify spare parts required for their machines thus ensuring correct retrieval of spares from the Stores.
  • Adequately hand over at the end of every shift, ensuring that uncompleted tasks or faults are logged on SAP and communicated.
  • Lead root cause analysis on equipment and provide information that will improve the Preventative maintenance program
  • Ability to influence team members and managers at varying levels of the organization

Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) General Certificate in Packaging an asset
  • Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechanical and electrical or Instruments Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Food Manufacturing Plant
  • 12 hour Shifts – Day and night shifts
