A businessman in Lagos has been arrested and charged to court after it was alleged that he had sexual intercourse with his teenage daughter.
49-year-old Wale Akinusi is said to have engaged in the incestuous relationship with his 17-year-old daughter and subsequently gotten her pregnant.
Mr. Akinusi is also said to have procured an abortion for his daughter after he discovered that she was pregnant.
The Eagle Online reports:
Adelaja ordered that Akinusi should be kept in prison custody pending the advice of the State Director of Public Prosecutions. Akinusi, who resides at Ojo Igbede Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful defilement and killing of an unborn child.

Earlier, the prosecutor, SP Soji Ojaokomo, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 2, 2012 at their residence. Ojaokomo said that the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter without her consent and unlawfully killed her unborn child.

He added: “When Akinusi noticed that his daughter was pregnant, he took her to the hospital to abort the unborn child.

“After she aborted the unborn child, the accused started having carnal knowledge of her again.

“The complainant decided to ask for help when she reported the case to the police, who immediately arrested the accused.” The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 137 and 234 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for convicted offenders, while Section 234 also prescribes life imprisonment for unlawful killing of an unborn child. The case was adjourned to February 20 for mention.
