The UNEP Risoe Centre (URC) on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development is a leading international research and advisory centre on energy, climate and sustainable development. We work in close partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and have project activities in more than 50 developing countries. URC collaborates with a large number of international and government and research institutions, especially in developing countries. The successful candidates will join an international team over 50professionals in an interdisciplinary work environment.
The Climate Resilient Development Programme, with a current staff of 10, is seeking two new climate change experts to contribute to research, methodology development, capacity building and implementation of projects, actions and strategies that enhance the climate resilience of developing countries.
Work areas: The advisors/senior advisors will join the Programme's work particularly in the areas of:
The successful candidates should have a degree in economics or other relevant discipline, at Ph.D. level or equivalent. Positions are open for both senior candidates with several years of relevant working experience as well as more junior applicants. Relevant experience would comprise working in one or more developing regions within the topical areas mentioned above, as well as demonstrated ability to develop and initiate new projects in co-operation with international and developing country institutions. Experience with the UN system and insight into adaptation aspects of the international climate change negotiations is an advantage. The working language at URC is English.

Terms of employment:

- Economics of climate change impacts and adaptation: Including assessment of avoided damage costs and social costs and benefits of climate change adaptation under risk and uncertainty.
- Technologies for adaptation: Including methodological guidance and building national capacity related to development, deployment, adoption, diffusion and transfer of technologies for adaptation in developing countries, in support of the Technology Needs Assessment project and in the context of the Climate Technology Centre and Network.
