Chairing the “SHA’ATANG” annual festival of the Mbaw Yakum people of the Bambalang village in the Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region under the theme “PRESERVING OUR
ENVIRONMENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT, PROMOTION AND EMERGENCE OF OUR
CULTURE”, Minister Mouelle KOMBI Narcisse of the Arts & Culture Ministry in Cameroon expressed overwhelming joy over the rich cultural heritage and diversity found . A village he knew via the excellent leadership of sons like late Fon Fosi YAKUM NTAW, the present cabinet secretary of the star building Ghogomu Mingo paul, veteran voice of the state media Ephraim BANDA GHOGOMU, to name these, he gladly touches the realities with his palms and is proud to see a people jealously preserve the heritage and legacy of a land for the next generation to uphold. Speaking during the 83rd edition of the SHA'ATANG festival, HE MOUELLE KOMBI Narcisse promised to fund initiatives that project the cultural beauty and valor of the nation.
The Mbaw-Yakum people of Bambalang village, Ndop central Sub Division,
Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region of Cameroon Saturday February 20th 2016 received the Ministers words as a blessing to the land of Bambalang. Observing their annual cultural festival “SHA’ATANG
under the distinguished patronage of H.E Mouelle Kombi Narcisse,
Minister of Arts and Culture was not only a blessing to them, but receiving his beautiful promises, was a source of hope.
Talking to Mr. Ghogomu
Ezekiel Nkonki (Publisher of Mbaw-Yakum Outline) the “SHA’ATANG” according to him originated during the
reign of Fon Ghogomu in the 1920’s. Speaking on stone FM radio, he
revealed that “during the reign of Fon Ghogomu, this festival was celebrated in rememberance of a late fon. Done within 9days to spare his anger, cultural activities were organised to animate the gathering. The villagers will cut off from their daily activities to celebrate the Fon's legacy and receive his blessings for a new season.
